Learning to Be Swedish

Learning to Be Swedish

My Swedish Journey

Hej! My name is Matthew, and I'm proud to call myself a Swede.

But what does that mean, being a Swede?

I'm a third-generation Anglo-Swedish American yuppy, and I've never lived in Sweden. I don't speak Swedish, nor have I visited the fatherland. I grew up with meatballs, lingonberries, potato sausage, and ostkaka. And it's about time that I answer the question, what does it mean to be Swedish?

Welcome to my journey into Swedish heritage. I've dubbed 2014 as my "learn what it means to be a Swede" year, and I delighted to share this learning experience with everyone and anyone who'll join me as I discover my nordic culture.

While we journey along, I invite you to share your thoughts and experiences, make suggestions and recommendations, and generally be a part of the conversation. Don't want to comment? Feel free to send a non-spamming email to ploomatt[at]gmail[dot]com.

Hej då!
Matthew
